Heroes has been a major TV success since its first season debut in 2006 and thanks to the great fan base Universal announced the release of Seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-ray a few months back. The release is scheduled for the end of August, just before the start of season 3 on NBC. We now have more details and have a pretty good idea of what the Blu-rays will include. Heroes: Season One will have five BD-50 dual-layer discs (MSRP $69.98) and Heroes: Season Two, a shorter season because of the writter’s strike, has only four discs (MSRP $49.98).
Supplements on ‘Season One’ will match the previous HD DVD release, with a bevy of extras including the 73-minute Premiere Episode (with optional audio commentary by show creator Tim Kring), four featurettes (”Making Of,” “Special Effects,” “The Stunts,” “Profile of Artist Tim Sale”), an artwork presentation, and deleted scenes.
‘Season Two’ will include five featurettes ( “Heroes Season 2: A New Beginning,” “Takezo Kensei: Sword Saint,” “Genetics of a Scene,” “The Drucker Files,” “Generations After”), a series of additional NBC.com featurettes, deleted scenes, and a still gallery.

Great news! According to www.bttf.com-a Back to the Future fan site- Bob Gale, writer and producer of the great blockbuster spilled the beans while attending a Back to the Future screening and cast reunion near Orlando this past weekend. He revealed that he is assisting on the Blu-ray preparation. “What you’re going to be seeing today is the digital master for the upcoming High Definition Blu-ray version of Back to the Future,” declared Gale. “I dont’ know when it’s coming out yet, but I was involved in the mastering of this tape, so I can tell you that it looks absolutely beautiful!” Fans had the opportunity to ask questions and one of them wanted to know if Back to the Future…The Ride would be included on the eventual Blu-ray Disc. Gale’s answer was: “I think they’re talking about that, I haven’t been directly involved with this, but I’ve sent a few emails to people at Universal suggesting that might be a really good extra feature on there, so we’ll remind them again.” Last April, Universal announced their Blu-ray plans to release about 40 titles in the second half of the year, mentioning about 16 movies but leaving out 24. Could Back to the Future be one of those missing names? I don’t doubt!
.
I really think that we will be seeing Back to the Future “dressed” in Blu soon since the comments came directly from Bob Gale and he would not look good lying…. Back to the Future has a very special place in many people’s hearts, including mine, and I am sure once it is released it will sell like hot cakes!!
This is a nice picture at the screening…

Now that Universal Studios Home Entertainment has shared their future plans for blu-ray, they announced they will be bringing the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated ‘Heroes’ to blu-ray. This is not the first time the “world saviors” will be introduced to high definition. In August last year ‘Heroes: Season One‘ was released on HD-DVD but with the death of the red format, it will be re-released along with ‘Heroes:Season Two‘ on blu-ray on August 26th. Of course this release date was no accident because the new blu-rays will hit stores just days before the three-hour premiere of the third season on September 15, 2008 on NBC starts. Details and specs have not yet been disclosed but as soon as they are we will update this post with more information, we do however expect ‘Heroes:Season One’ to have the same extras and featurettes as its first HD-DVD release.

Now that HD-DVD has kissed goodbye to the market for a couple of months. The companies which supported the format are starting to put their heads down and announce their plans to release blu-rays. Today it was Universal’s turn to give more details on their migrating plan. Universal was one of HD DVD’s biggest supporter but when Toshiba pulled the plug on the format the studio was fast on raising the “white flag” and joining Sony’s Blu-ray.
Universal announced today that starting in July; we will be seeing their films coming out on the “Blu” format. The first batch will include: The Incredible Hulk, Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mamma Mia!, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, “Heroes: Season Two” and many others.
“We’re thrilled that our preliminary slate of Blu-ray offerings comprises such a brilliant collection of high-def centric fare,” said Mr. Craig Kornblau, President, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Universal Pictures Digital Platforms. “As awareness for Blu-ray continues to grow, consumers will learn to rely on the superior quality picture, sound, interactivity and connectivity that only high-definition home entertainment delivers.”
It will be exciting to see all Universal’s successes in high definition and by Mr. Kornblau’s comment they will inundate the market with their films.
